The Macallan Speymalt Single Malt Scotch Whisky 50 Year Old · 1940 Vintage
Out of stock
Gordon & MacPhail have been purveyors of fine goods across three centuries and, over many years, have built up and nurtured special relationships with local producers. Among these are several local whisky distilleries in the Speyside region from whom they purchase new-make spirit to be matured in their own oak casks.
However, there is only one distillery for which they reserve the title ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’.
Established in 1824 and situated overlooking the fishing beats on the River Spey, the Macallan Distillery produces a wonderfully complex spirit, which they then carefully mature in quality oak casks ordered specifically for the ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’ range.
Each bottling carries the vintage of distillation and the year of bottling, capturing an exceptionally mature single malt whisky.
An over 50 year old Macallan distilled way back in 1940 and presented in a beautiful polished wooden box with a traditional tartan lining, simply amazing.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Dark amber with glowing copper-gold reflections and a mahogany-tinted edge.
Nose
Opulent and time-smoothed, the nose unfurls with dried fig and raisin, orange peel and toffee over deep sherry oak. Cocoa, almond and treacle mingle with leather, cigar box and warm spice—cinnamon and clove—while hints of polished wax and Christmas cake linger in a noble, age-honed bouquet.
Palate
Silky and opulent on the palate, this 50-year Macallan unfurls a velvet core of dried fig, date and raisin, braided with warm spice—nutmeg and cinnamon—and a whisper of orange zest. Cocoa and toffee deepen the sweetness as supple oak adds structure, yielding a mouthfilling, nutty, caramel-laced profile. The finish is long and refined, with a delicate sherry lift, leather and polished wood lingering.
Finish
An extraordinarily long, refined finish that lingers with cacao, dried fig and raisin, and orange zest, wrapped in velvety oak and spice. Dried fruit sweetness tapers into warm embers of cinnamon and clove, leaving a polished, resinous dryness that invites the next sip.
