The 5th release in The Macallan's Edition series, No. 5 pays homage to The Macallan's natural colour. Celebrating The Macallan’s extensive colour spectrum and the intricate whisky making process, the whisky has been produced in partnership with masters at the Pantone Color Institute to create a unique shade of purple that features on the packaging.

The whisky has been matured in American oak casks, before being bottled with100% natural colour and without the use of spirit caramel, at 48.5% abv.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Vanilla and toffee with notes of oak, nutmeg, ginger, lemon basil and pear.

Palate

Fresh and sweet with caramel moving into poached peaches and ripe pear. Quickly followed by a toffee sweetness with light oak spices in the form of nutmeg and hints of ginger in the background.

Finish

Long and sweet.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
