Colour

Deep mahogany with burnished amber and coppery hues, catching ruby highlights in the glass.

Nose

Opulent sherry-kissed nose: dark fig and raisin fruit, toffee and orange zest, cocoa nibs and roasted almond. Rich oak and a thread of spice weave through leather and treacle, hinting at cacao from oloroso cask maturation.

Palate

Opulent and full-bodied, Oscuro coats the palate with velvety sherry richness. Dense notes of dark chocolate, fig and prune mingle with orange zest, espresso and cocoa powder. A silky sweetness underpins robust oak and spice, delivering a long, warming finish with hints of toffee and nutmeg.

Finish

Long, opulent finish with lush sherried sweetness—dark chocolate, fig and raisin—layered with roasted coffee, cocoa nib, and toasted oak. Warm spice lingers, threading an orange zest glow as the sweetness slowly fades into velvety, cocoa-dusted warmth.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
