This 9-year-old release from The English was matured in a single imperial stout cask and bottled at a natural strength of 57.9% ABV. The stout cask gives the whisky a richer, darker profile than a more traditional oak maturation, adding roasted depth and a softer sweetness to the distillery’s naturally approachable style.
That cask influence works particularly well here, bringing together notes of chocolate, coffee, dark malt and gentle spice without overwhelming the whisky itself.
