Fitzgerald and later became one of the most important labels connected to Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle and the famous Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville. Old Fitzgerald helped establish the reputation of wheated bourbon, replacing rye with wheat in the mash bill to create a softer, rounder style.
