A truely spectacular bottling of Single Grain whsky from the North British distillery. Bottled at a mighty 61% abv, this is a 28 year old whisky that has been matured in a single first fill Sherry Puncheon (look at that colour!) One of only 181 bottles have been produced.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep mahogany with ruby-red highlights and a warm amber-bronze glow.

Nose

Rich and bold, the nose evokes fruitcake laden with sultanas, raisins and dates soaked in golden syrup, while hot dark chocolate aromas weave in hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and dried ginger.

Palate

Undertones of marzipan and orange peel cushion ripe cherry flavours, with evolving notes of stewed blackcurrant and blackberry. A delicate menthol edge remains, lending lift to a long, polished finish.

Finish

A delicate, lingering charred oak finish that softly fades to warm toasted notes, with a subtle echo of dark chocolate and spice lingering on the palate.

(North BRI-tish) North British was founded in Edinburgh in 1885 by a group of independent blenders including Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John M. Crabbie, with production beginning in 1887. The distillery was created to break the grain whisky monopoly held by DCL, which gives it a particularly important place in Scotch whisky history.
