This 2013 Inchmurrin from Thompson Bros is a marriage of a refill barrel and an Oloroso hogshead, bottled at 13 years old and 52.2% ABV, with 553 bottles released. The cask combination works particularly well here, bringing together Inchmurrin’s bright, fruity distillery character with a richer Oloroso edge that adds depth and shape through the finish.
That balance gives the whisky a lot of charm. The spirit stays vibrant and expressive, with peach, strawberry and green apple notes to the fore, while the Oloroso influence brings extra nuttiness, sweetness and a little more weight. It makes for a very approachable but characterful bottling, with plenty of fruit and just enough sherry richness to round everything out.
