Distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2021 at 52.9% ABV, this 31-year-old Glenburgie was released by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength series. Matured in a first fill sherry butt (cask #12524), the cask yielded 482 bottles, showcasing the distillery’s spirit after more than three decades of maturation.
Glenburgie Distillery, founded in 1829 near Forres in Speyside, produces a light and fruity spirit that is most commonly used in blends, particularly Ballantine’s. Independent bottlings such as this offer a rare opportunity to experience Glenburgie as a single malt, where its orchard fruit character can fully develop alongside the influence of long sherry cask maturation.

Deep amber with coppery highlights and a mahogany glow.
Nose
Dark forest fruit notes mingle with clove spice and treacle-tinged toasted hazelnuts, giving way to rich stewed apples and charred oak.
Palate
Silky Morello cherry notes entwine with dark chocolate and black pepper, delivering a refined, gently spiced fruit core. A hint of liquorice unfolds with toasted almonds, adding depth and a subtle nutty finish.
Finish
Full and long with mature oak and botter marmalade.
