Glenburgie Claxton's Single Cask Whisky 9 Year Old · 2008 Vintage
Out of stock
Another, lesser known Speyside distillery. Glenburgie is owned by Pernod Ricard and although one of the groups largest distilleries in terms of output, most goes into their core blends such as Ballantines. Official bottlings have been scarce with Independant bottlings also limited in release.
Here we have a 9 year old, aged in a re-used hogshead and bottled at cask strength, without colour or chill filtration.
Pale in colour, this is very fresh on the nose with peach and nectarine. There is also quite an oak presence with malt, biscuit, vanilla and honey. Slightly spirity too. The palate is woody, spicy and grassy. The fruit is still evident but more citrusy in profile, slight butteryness. The finish is spicy and medium. A simple, unfussy drinking Speysider.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Pale straw, with a delicate, translucent glow and a whisper of pale gold.
Nose
Fresh and fruit-forward, with peach and nectarine at the core. A pronounced oak frame supports malt, biscuit, vanilla and honey, while a gentle spirity lift lingers, hinting at the cask-strength, unfiltered style. A bright, approachable aroma that hints at summer fruit and warm wood.
Palate
Woody, spicy and grassy, this palate carries citrusy fruit that brightens mid-palate, wrapped in vanilla and a delicate butteriness. Oak and malt underpin the sweetness, while a speck of spice threads through to a clean, approachable finish.
Finish
Spicy and medium in length, the finish lingers with warming oak, malt and peppery spice, faint citrus zest and a whisper of vanilla honey, leaving a clean, unfussy Speyside glow.
