Nestled in a hidden cove near Port Askaig, Islay, the Caol Ila (pronounced “Cull Eela”) distillery sent its whisky to market by sea for over a hundred years. Caol Ila is the Gaelic name for the Sound of Islay, which separates the island from Jura in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Scotland's West Coast. The distillery was founded in 1846 and is situated on the shores of the Sound, a spot originally chosen partly because of the clean water from Loch Nam Ban which still provides its main supply.
This distiller’s edition is a limited edition release that’s matured in American oak and finished in Moscatel wine casks. Brilliantly clean and refined, it delivers a deep, sweet and smoky flavour profile that suggests the intense, saturated colours of late afternoon sunshine after a storm has passed. Its sweetness and maltiness strike first, then are quickly overwhelmed by peat smoke and intense, clean, crisp flavours.
This single malt won the International Spirits Challenge Gold Medal in 2014. With its rich flavour and fine balance Caol lla Distillers Edition makes an ideal gift for lovers of peaty Islay Single Malt Whiskies.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep coppery amber with sunlit gold edges, like late-afternoon Islay light after a storm.
Nose
Sweet malt and honeyed citrus lead, easing into a cool coastal peat smoke. The Moscatel finish infuses a delicate grape-sultana fruitiness—fragrant, sun-warmed and a touch floral—while vanilla from American oak and mineral sea-air keep the aroma bright, clean and refined.
Palate
Silky sweetness and malt arrive first, a pale fruit and citrus brightness that eases into caressing peat. Moscatel-finished; adds a subtle, honeyed raisin undercurrent, brightened by clean, crisp undertones of lemon and sea-salt. The palate stays refined and balanced, with a lasting, smoky finish that remains fresh and poised.
Finish
Long, pristine Islay finish with peat lingering, kissed by sweet Moscatel and malt, fading to crisp maritime warmth and a final wisp of smoke.
