Cask Strength Single Cask

A single cask Braeval bottled by Gleann Mor for the Rare Find series, this 16 year old was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2025 from first fill ex-bourbon cask number 9504 at cask strength of 62% ABV. Limited to 195 bottles.

First fill bourbon maturation brings pronounced vanilla sweetness, gentle spice and fresh oak influence to Braeval’s naturally light, malt-forward Speyside spirit, complementing the distillery’s clean, fruity character in a powerful single cask release.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Golden amber with sunlit honey hues and a warm, tawny glow.

Nose

Pronounced vanilla sweetness leads the nose, carried by creamy caramel and a subtle oak backbone. Gentle spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—reaches through, while bright orchard fruits keep the profile fresh and clean, a nod to Braeval’s malt-forward Speyside character even at cask strength.

Palate

Powerful yet elegant, this cask-strength Braeval delivers a creamy vanilla and toffee core, bright orchard fruit and a malt-forward frame. Gentle spices—cinnamon and clove—fade into fresh oak and a bourbon-sweet undercurrent, finishing warm, slightly peppery, and long.

Finish

Long, warming finish of vanilla-forward sweetness from first-fill bourbon, subtly spiced with gentle oak. The light, fruity Braeval shines through, paired with citrus zest and toasted wood, fading slowly into a refined, lingering sweetness.

Braeval
(bray-val) Braeval was built by Chivas Brothers in 1973 near Chapeltown in Speyside, originally opening as Braes of Glenlivet. The name was later changed to Braeval to avoid confusion with The Glenlivet, while its purpose remained largely the same: producing malt whisky for Chivas Brothers blends, including Chivas Regal. It is one of Scotland’s highest distilleries, sitting around 350 metres above sea level.
