Tasting Notes

Nose

Opulent and bold, the nose opens with burnt caramel, vanilla and toasted oak, weaving with dark fruit—prune, fig, blackberry—and barrel-spice, cinnamon and clove, plus cocoa and espresso. Subtle smoke and graphite from the Black Noise finish lift the aroma, ending in plush warmth and resinous oak.

Blackened was launched in 2018 as a collaboration between Metallica and the late Dave Pickerell, the influential American master distiller known for his work with Maker’s Mark, WhistlePig and a wide range of craft whiskey projects. The name comes from Metallica’s track “Blackened”, from …And Justice for All, and the whiskey was created as a blend of bourbons, ryes and other American whiskeys finished in black brandy barrels.
