Still housed and produced at Edradour distillery, Ballechin is their heavily peated distillation that has been produced since 2003.

Distilled using barley infused with peat around the 50ppm mark, this 10 year old whisky is predominantly ex-Bourbon casks with a touch of ex-Oloroso Sherry casks for a rich, complex whisky bottled at 46%.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Herbal and grassy with a sweet, smoky lift that hints at peat.

Palate

Earthy, smoky peat coats the palate with a confident spice and dark chocolate notes. Subtle sherry sweetness threads through the smoke, adding cocoa-dusted richness with a drying, herbal lift.

Finish

A lingering smoky burn of burnt heather mingles with grassy Highlands notes, fading slowly into an airy, herbaceous finish.

Ballechin
(bell-leck-in) Ballechin is the heavily peated single malt produced at Edradour Distillery near Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire. The name revives that of the old Ballechin farm distillery, a nearby Perthshire producer founded in the early 19th century and closed in the 1920s. Modern Ballechin began in 2003, after Andrew Symington of Signatory Vintage acquired Edradour in 2002 and expanded the distillery’s range beyond its traditional unpeated house style.
