Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep mahogany amber with a generous copper glow and ruby-bronze edge, rich and alluring.

Nose

Polished oak frames a spice-laden aroma of clove and cinnamon, mingling with dried cherries and prunes. A delicate whisper of pink grapefruit brightens the depth, with coffee, a minty lift, and a subtle wisp of smoke.

Palate

Beautifully balanced, the palate unfolds with cinnamon and cloves, tempered by bitter chocolate. Dried apricots, cherries and prunes weave through with a subtle nuttiness and peppery herbal lift, while toasted oak lingers in the background.

Finish

A long finish, with apricot and cherry sweetness enveloping the palate first, then warming spices and a peppery bite, with oak playing the final, resonant note.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
