Matured in predominantly sherry seasoned European oak casks, this exceptional single malt whisky has distinct tasting notes of ginger, dried fruits and spice.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Warm, radiant amber with copper-gold highlights and a subtle mahogany glow.

Nose

Aromas unfold with dried fruits—raisins and sultanas—complemented by candied citrus peel. Oak adds a creamy, toasty backbone while ginger and nutmeg weave through the glass, hinting at the sherry-seasoned cask’s warmth and spice.

Palate

Raisins and sultanas mingle with ginger syrup, a touch of sweet cinnamon spice and a hint of vanilla.

Finish

A long, oak-drenched finish with warming ginger at the fore, lingering softly into vanilla and spice as it fades to a warmed, comforting glow.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
