Released as a 15 years old for the first time, Gran Reserva is a rich, fruity and full-bodied single malt whisky, matured predominantly in first-fill sherry seasoned European oak casks. Once filled into casks hand-picked by the Master Distiller, previously under the care of our Master of Wood, the maturing spirit remains undisturbed for a full 15 years. Here, inside the carefully sourced, crafted, toasted and seasoned oak, this tantalising single malt develops its natural colour, distinctive aromas and lingering flavours.

Colour

Rich amber with coppery bronze tones and a warm honey-gold glow.

Nose

Rich dried fruits mingle with warm winter spices, orange zest and dark chocolate, lifted by a subtle thread of oak.

Palate

An exuberant palate of spice, balanced by soft notes of rich fruit. Orange zest threads through the sweetness, with warm oak underpinning the finish. A long, refined flourish that echoes the Gran Reserva’s sherry maturity.

Finish

A complex, long finish where oak and warm spices mingle with dark chocolate and orange, leaving a lingering, refined warmth.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
