Planteray Black Cask 2025 is a limited-edition rum combining spirit from Barbados and Trinidad, produced at West Indies Rum Distillery and Trinidad Distillers Ltd. Using a mix of pot and column still distillation, the rums are first matured in the Caribbean in 200-litre ex-bourbon casks before being transported to south-west France for a second maturation in 350-litre Ferrand oak casks. These heavily toasted casks add further depth and roasted spice to the naturally rich, fruity character of the blend.

Bottled at 40% ABV, the rum offers layers of tropical fruit, caramel, coconut, vanilla and hazelnut, followed by frangipane, cinnamon, cocoa and gingerbread. The palate develops notes of molasses, candied raspberry, marmalade and gentle spice, leading to a lingering finish of sweet coffee, coconut, nutmeg, raisins and plum. The 2025 release has a dosage of 19g/L and contains only a trace of E150a caramel colouring.

Planteray was founded in 1999 by Alexandre Gabriel under Maison Ferrand, and for most of its life was known as Plantation Rum before being renamed Planteray in 2024. The brand has built its identity around exploring rum terroirs from across the Caribbean and beyond, working with distillers in places such as Barbados, Jamaica, Fiji and Mauritius rather than limiting itself to one country or one house style.
