Penderyn Dragon Series Legend is an award-winning single malt Welsh whisky that combines the distillery’s fresh, fruit-led character with the richness of a Madeira wine cask finish. The whisky is initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in carefully selected ex-Madeira casks, which add layers of dried fruit, creamy sweetness and gentle complexity. Legend forms part of Penderyn’s Dragon Series, a collection inspired by the red dragon that has represented Wales throughout its history. First introduced in 2015, the range celebrates Welsh heritage through three distinctive expressions: Legend, Myth and Celt. Legend showcases Penderyn’s established expertise in wine-cask finishing, balancing the lighter qualities of the distillery’s spirit with the richer influence of Madeira wood. The nose opens with crisp apple and bright citrus, followed by cream fudge, sultanas and soft dried fruit. The palate is exceptionally smooth, bringing together fresh orchard fruit, richer raisin sweetness and a delicate touch of bitterness that maintains balance and freshness. A long finish develops with notes of Madeira cake, sultanas and lingering fruit sweetness.
