Since then, the distillery has grown well beyond its original site, with Penderyn opening a second distillery in Llandudno in May 2021 and a third at Swansea Copperworks in June 2023.
Penderyn’s style is closely tied to its production. The distillery uses a unique Faraday still, designed by Dr David Faraday, which produces spirit at an industry-high 92% ABV and helps give the whisky its light, fruity and flavoursome character. Water from the Brecon Beacons also forms part of that identity, while the range has grown from the original Madeira-finished house style into a broader selection that includes peated, sherry and port cask expressions. Together, those details give Penderyn a distinctive place in modern whisky as the distillery that brought Welsh single malt back onto the international stage.
