Imperial (silent) Gordon & MacPhail Single Malt Scotch Whisky 19 Year Old · 1996 Vintage
In stock
A now closed distillery that was situated near Carron in Speyside and demolished in 2013 and replaced by the new Dalmunach distillery on the same site.
Owes its name to the patriotism inspired by Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee (1897) and was part of the original whisky distillery building boom at the end of that century.
A dry and more leafy/oily lost Speyside malt that reminds me a little bit of Rosebank, another lost distillery from the Lowlands.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep golden amber with a warm copper sheen and a whisper of mahogany at the rim.
Nose
Rich tea and digestive biscuits unfold with herbal honey, pine nuts and sour apple. A touch of singed straw and leafy fragrance adds dry, elegant depth, echoing a quiet Speyside character.
Palate
On the palate, succulent poached pears cloaked in syrup meet clove spice and almond milk, with ginger latte warmth, a thread of subtle smoke and herbal notes. Fresh straw, malty toffee and lemon rind mingle with aniseed, all carried by an oily, quietly velvety body.
Finish
Peppery and malty, with a leafy, savoury nut-shell dryness that lingers. Marzipan, sour apple and pear unfold, while clove and ginger wisp through, ending on malty biscuit echoes.
