Every whisky begins with the same basic ingredients and process, but each distillery brings its own distinct approach. For an unpeated style, The Lakes Distillery uses malted barley dried without smoke. Pure heated water from the Lake District National Park is added to break down the grain and release the sugars. By slowing the mashing process and recirculating the water more extensively, they create a clearer wort—resulting in a spirit that’s notably fruitier in character.
