Today it remains in the Gorgie area of Edinburgh and operates under Lothian Distillers, a joint venture between Diageo and Edrington.
North British is a grain distillery rather than a malt distillery, and much of its output has traditionally gone into major blends rather than being widely bottled in its own name. That background is part of what makes older independent bottlings so interesting when they appear. Its history also includes wartime production stops during both the First and Second World Wars, and it remains notable today as Edinburgh’s last working distillery and one of Scotland’s largest grain whisky producers.
