Taketsuru Pure Malt was launched in 2000 in honour of Masataka Taketsuru. It is a blended malt, drawing on malt whisky from Nikka’s two Japanese malt distilleries rather than grain whisky. Yoichi brings a firmer, more robust style, while Miyagikyo adds a softer, fruit-led and floral character.
The range has included notable age-stated releases such as Taketsuru 17, 21 and 25 Year Old, though these were discontinued around 2020 during a period of pressure on mature Japanese whisky stocks. The current Taketsuru Pure Malt is built around key malts including sherry cask maturations from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, along with remade cask malt from Miyagikyo.
