About Linlithgow (silent)
(Lin-Lith-GO) Linlithgow is another name used for St Magdalene, a lost Lowland single malt Scotch whisky distillery in West Lothian. The distillery stood between the Union Canal and the railway in Linlithgow, with origins usually traced to the late 18th century and the Dawson family, before becoming part of DCL and later Scottish Malt Distillers.
St Magdalene closed in 1983 during the wider Scotch whisky downturn, and the site was later converted into residential buildings, with parts of the old distillery still visible. Bottlings under both St Magdalene and Linlithgow are now scarce, with Diageo’s Rare Malts and Special Releases, plus independent bottlings, showing a classic old Lowland style of citrus, grass, waxy fruit, malt, herbs and gentle spice.
