(Glen-YOU-ree Royal) Glenury Royal was a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, founded in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay. In 1835, King William IV granted permission for the distillery to use the “Royal” suffix, placing Glenury Royal among the very small group of Scotch whisky distilleries associated with royal naming rights, alongside Royal Brackla and Royal Lochnagar.

The distillery closed permanently in 1985 during the difficult early-1980s period for Scotch whisky, and the site was later sold for housing and demolished. Glenury Royal is now a silent distillery with no possibility of production returning on the original site, so surviving bottles come from remaining old stocks and independent releases. The whisky is generally associated with a firm Highland style, often showing malt, orchard fruit, waxy notes, spice, oak and old-cask depth.
