Bottled by That Boutique-y Rum Company, this Batch 7 Caroni was aged for 23 years and released at a natural strength of 61.1% ABV, with an outturn of 326 bottles. It comes from one of rum’s most revered lost distilleries, and that alone gives the bottle plenty of interest before it is even poured.

Caroni closed in 2002 when Trinidad’s state sugar industry was wound down, which makes surviving bottlings like this all the more compelling. The distillery’s rum is known for its heavy, oily and unmistakably characterful style, and long-aged examples like this are especially prized for the way they combine that muscular spirit with deeper layers of tar, dark fruit, spice and oak.
