A major turning point came in 2002, when Kirin acquired Four Roses worldwide and returned Kentucky straight bourbon to the US market.
Four Roses is especially known for its production method, using two mash bills and five proprietary yeast strains to create 10 distinct bourbon recipes, which are then bottled individually or blended in different combinations across the range. That system sits behind expressions such as Four Roses Bourbon, Small Batch, Single Barrel and Small Batch Select, and it remains one of the clearest points of distinction in the brand’s modern identity.
More recent milestones include the US launch of Single Barrel in 2004, Small Batch in 2006, and the appointment of Brent Elliott as Master Distiller in 2015 after working alongside Jim Rutledge for a decade.
