About Canadian Club
Canadian Club was founded in 1858 by Hiram Walker in Walkerville, Ontario, on the Canadian side of the Detroit River. Originally known as Club Whisky, it gained its name from the American and Canadian gentlemen’s clubs where it became popular, with “Canadian” later added to the label to distinguish it from competing American whiskies.
The brand became closely associated with Canadian whisky’s lighter, smoother style and played a prominent role during Prohibition, when Canadian whisky found a large market across the border in the United States. Now owned by Suntory Global Spirits, Canadian Club remains one of the best-known Canadian whisky names, with a range including Canadian Club 1858, Reserve 9 Year Old, Classic 12 Year Old, 100% Rye and ready-to-drink serves.
