Canadian Club was founded in 1858 by Hiram Walker in Walkerville, Ontario, on the Canadian side of the Detroit River. Originally known as Club Whisky, it gained its name from the American and Canadian gentlemen’s clubs where it became popular, with “Canadian” later added to the label to distinguish it from competing American whiskies.
