About Ben Wyvis (silent)
(Ben Wy-vis) Ben Wyvis (named after the huge 3,000 foot mountain which dominates the area) was built in 1965 inside the Invergordon grain whisky complex on the Cromarty Firth in the Northern Highlands. It was created by Invergordon Distillers to supply unpeated malt whisky for the Whyte & Mackay blend, and took its name from an earlier lost distillery near Dingwall, also known as Ferintosh, which had closed in 1926.
The distillery was short-lived, closing after only 11 years and being demolished in 1976. Its stills were saved and later transferred to Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown. Only a small number of official and independent Ben Wyvis bottlings were ever released, making it one of the scarcer names among Scotland’s silent malt distilleries.
