About Bell's
Bell’s traces its roots to Arthur Bell, a Perth wine and spirits merchant who began vatting malt whiskies together in 1851 to create a more consistent blended Scotch. The “Extra Special” trademark was registered in 1895 and later appeared with the Bell’s name in 1904, becoming the basis of the long-running Bell’s blend. Blair Athol, founded in 1798, became closely tied to the brand after Arthur Bell & Sons acquired the distillery in 1933.
The brand grew into one of Britain’s best-known blended Scotch whiskies during the 20th century, later passing to Guinness in 1985 and becoming part of Diageo after the creation of the group in 1997. Blair Athol remains the heart of Bell’s, supported by selected grain and malt whiskies to give the blend its rounded, malty and gently spicy style.
