Tasting Notes

Nose

Opulent vanilla and caramel rise from toasted oak, with brown sugar and maple sweetness. The high-proof spice blooms—rye pepper, cinnamon, and clove—woven with dried fruit and a whisper of leather. Warm, bourbon-rich aromas invite slow, luxurious nosing.

Palate

Big, silky entry, a lush wave of vanilla, caramel and toffee tempered by charred oak. Rich fruit and cream give way to baking spices—cinnamon, clove, nutmeg—punctuated by a pronounced peppery bite. Full-bodied and slightly chewy, it finishes with warming oak and spice.

Finish

Long, warming and spicy, with toasted oak and a kiss of vanilla. Caramel sweetness lingers as pepper and cinnamon fade, leaving a dry, resonant warmth that persists.

Wild Turkey traces its modern brand history to 1940, when Austin Nichols executive Thomas McCarthy took warehouse samples on a wild turkey hunting trip and the name became attached to the bourbon his friends kept requesting. The Lawrenceburg distillery behind the whiskey has deeper roots in Kentucky distilling, including the Ripy family’s 19th-century distillery at Tyrone, before Austin Nichols acquired the site in 1971.
