Tasting Notes

Nose

Opulent sherry perfume of dried figs, raisins and orange zest, with dark chocolate, vanilla and toasted oak. A touch of almond and cedar, warmed by cinnamon and clove—rich, velvety, and inviting, hinting at a time-worn cabinet of fruit preserves and spice.

Palate

Silky, full-bodied on the palate with deep sherried sweetness. Dark fruit compote—raisins, fig and cherry—folds with molasses, orange zest and a thread of spice. Rich vanilla and cocoa mingle with toasted oak, finishing with long, refined warmth.

Finish

Silky and enduring, the finish releases notes of dried fig and raisin, with cocoa and orange zest. Subtle spice—cinnamon and clove—arises over velvety oak, leaving a warm, lingering glow of sherry-wrapped richness.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
