Tasting Notes

Nose

Silky sherry aroma of raisin, fig and orange peel, layered with toffee, vanilla and dark chocolate. Spiced oak and a whisper of leather lend refined depth, revealing Macallan’s sun-kissed orchard fruit core beneath.

Palate

Silky, full-bodied palate of dried fruits—raisin and fig—woven with cocoa, toffee and orange zest from sherry casks; walnut and spice notes of cinnamon and clove rise, backed by velvety oak. Warm, balanced sweetness lingers with a refined, lingering spice finish.

Finish

Long, warming finish of lush sherry fruit—raisins, orange zest, and dark chocolate—touched by cinnamon, tapering to a soft oak whisper.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
