Scarabus, an Islay Single Malt for those with a curious mind and an eye for detail. A whisky bold and honest about its origins and just a little mysterious about everything else.
The brand creates a sense of mystery and discovery through the tagline “only those who seek shall find” and through the intentionally ambiguous symbols incorporated on the label. The look and feel drew inspiration from the work of Islay born John Francis Campbell, who created the sunshine recorder, a device that tallies the hours of sunshine in a day, as well as creating a vast collection of Celtic folklore tales.
Scarabus is known as a mystical area on the Isle of Islay, and the name dates back to 13th century, and translates to “a rocky place” in Old Norse.
Each expression is bottled proudly without colouring or chill-filtration.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a sunlit, honeyed glow.
Nose
Peat smoke and maritime brine swirl with cigar-esque aroma. Dark chocolate, treacle and dried fruit rise against leather and tobacco leaf, touched by vanilla. Subtle spice and oak add warmth as burnt sugar and cocoa linger, keeping the profile rich, enigmatic, and perfectly Islay.
Palate
On the palate, Scarabus wealthily coats the tongue with oily peat and maritime brine, tempered by sherry-cask richness. Roasted coffee and dark chocolate mingle with fig and date, while leather, tobacco and cigar-box spice add depth. Vanilla, cocoa, and oak sweetness weave through peppery, ash-dry finish, leaving a lingering, cigarlike warmth.
Finish
An enduring finish of smoky peat and cigar tobacco, slowly giving way to cocoa-dusted chocolate and dried fig from the sherry influence. A maritime breeze brushes warm spice and orange zest, while leather and ash linger softly. Velvet warmth coats the mouth, inviting another contemplative sip as the smoke tapers to a refined, lingering glow.
