One of only three distilleries in Scotland that are allowed to use the "Royal" name on the label and came about because of its location near the Royal residence of Balmoral and was a favourite tipple of Queen Victoria and her husband Albert.
This is a 1980's bottling of this lesser known distillery in the Diageo owned range of single malts.
Wonder if the older style release is anything like the apricot glazed toasted hot cross buns of the lastest release?

Colour
Rich amber with warm coppery highlights
Nose
Aromas of ripe apricot and orange zest mingle with sherry sweetness, framed by toasted almond, vanilla and toffee. Subtle spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon add warmth, while malt and oak lend structured, inviting depth.
Palate
Silky and balanced, the palate opens with apricot and honeyed citrus, a subtle malt sweetness carrying into toasted almond and dried fruit. Sherry-cask influence adds caramel, cocoa and a gentle spice, finishing long with refined warmth and oak-inflected elegance.
Finish
Long, velvety finish that lingers with sherry-soft sweetness. Nutty toasted almond and dried apricot emerge, mingled with gentle spice and oak, leaving a refined, bittersweet echo that softly fades to a warm, nutty glow.
