Independent Octomore! Superbly smoky Single Malt from Bruichladdich, released under the Octomore label. Bottled for the Stories of Wind & Wave series by The Character of Islay Whisky Company. Distilled in 2011, it was eventually bottled up at 9 years of age, presented at 50% ABV. Fabulous stuff from a range dedicated to showing off the brilliance of Islay whiskies.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper with rich amber and mahogany undertones, a smoky, molten-glass glow.
Nose
Penetrating coastal peat smoke floods the nose, tempered by sea-salt, iodine and mineral brine. Underneath, citrus zest and a whisper of vanilla mingle with char and black pepper, while faint sherry-like resin lends a glossy, coastal sweetness. A bold, maritime perfume that speaks of Islay power and sea-wind.
Palate
Coastal peat floods the palate—thick smoke, ash and iodine layered with briny sea-salt. Vanilla sweetness and toasted oak braid with citrus zest, delivering balance beneath a warming 50% ABV. Full, muscular and long, finishing with peppery spice and a lingering maritime smoke.
Finish
Long maritime finish, a plume of thick peat smoke with saline brine and iodine. Subtle cocoa and vanilla sweetness weave through the burn, while resinous ash lingers, leaving a final bright note of citrus zest as it fades.
