Pedro Ximénez casks provide the whisky’s sweeter and more luxurious character, developing layers of raisins, sultanas, caramelised berries and smooth chocolate. Oloroso sherry casks add balance through dried fruit, orange peel, warming spice, toasted nuts and gently drying oak. The two cask styles work alongside GlenDronach’s robust Highland spirit to create a whisky that is rich and creamy without becoming overly sweet.

The aroma opens with ripe autumn fruit, sun-dried raisins and smooth chocolate praline, followed by gingerbread, vanilla and gently spiced orange. The palate is silky and rounded, bringing together caramelised bramble, sultanas and vibrant orange with cinnamon, ginger and mature sherry-seasoned oak. A warming finish follows, with lingering dried fruit, subtle nuttiness and a pleasant touch of dryness.

Approachable enough for someone beginning to explore sherried single malt, yet sufficiently layered for an experienced whisky drinker, GlenDronach 12 Year Old is an excellent choice for drinking neat, adding to a home whisky collection or giving as a gift.
