Distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2022 at 51.5% ABV, this 21-year-old Dumbarton single grain whisky was released by Douglas Laing for the Old Particular single cask series. Matured in a refill hogshead (cask #DL15825), the cask yielded 176 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Sunlit golden amber with honeyed warmth and a whisper of copper.

Nose

Barley sugar sweetness threads through bright citrus, with touches of toffee and gentle spice, creating a confectionary, grain-forward aroma that hints at warm honey and vanilla.

Palate

Opens very sweetly on the palate, warming to honey, golden syrup and vanilla caramel, a velvet, lingering sweetness that coats the tongue.

Finish

Spices linger first, giving way to a bright hard sugar candy finish that threads warmth and sweetness.

(dum-BAR-tun) Dumbarton was built in 1938 by Hiram Walker in the town of Dumbarton, two years after the company had acquired George Ballantine & Co., and it quickly became one of the most important grain distilleries in Scotch whisky. At the time it began production, it was the largest continuous grain distillery in Scotland, and its scale reflected its main role: supplying grain whisky for Ballantine’s and other blends rather than building a large identity as a standalone single grain brand.
