Following the repeal of Prohibition, Old Fitzgerald became the flagship bourbon of the newly formed Stitzel-Weller Distillery, which opened in 1935. Under Pappy Van Winkle's guidance, the brand developed a reputation for quality and became one of the defining names in premium Kentucky bourbon. Many bourbon enthusiasts still regard the Stitzel-Weller era bottlings as some of the most influential wheated bourbons ever produced.
Today, Old Fitzgerald is produced by Heaven Hill Distillery following Heaven Hill's acquisition of the brand in 1999. The modern range centres on the highly regarded Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond releases, presented in decanter-style bottles and released in limited seasonal batches. Old Fitzgerald remains closely associated with wheated bourbon, alongside other well-known Kentucky names such as Weller and Pappy Van Winkle, and continues to be one of the most sought-after heritage bourbon brands in the category.
