Produced at the Anchor Distillery in San Fransisco, Old Potrero whiskies are made with 100% malted rye. The whiskies are an attempt to re-create the original whiskey of America during the 18th Century, when Rye was the principal grain.
Tasting Notes
A cinnamon, nutmeg and peppery nose immediately thrusts the spicy signature of rye into the forefront of the conversation, with the savoury palate and moreishly dry finish confirming this impression. The gentle toasting of the barrels allows the oak to speak more quietly than in many American whiskies, moving more towards complex pecan and walnut, rather than luxuriant macadamia.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Richer, glowing amber with coppery flashes and a caramel-bronze patina, like sunlit oak.
Nose
Cinnamon, nutmeg and peppery rye lead the aroma, sharp with spice and a savory edge. Lightly toasted oak threads through, revealing subtle pecan and walnut notes beneath, giving an elegant, dry complexity that nods to 18th-century rye character.
Palate
Rye-forward palate with peppery bite and warm spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—driven by savoury, sinewy rye. Mild oak support lets pecan and walnut notes shine, yielding a dry, nutty complexity and a distinctly savoury finish with restrained sweetness.
Finish
Dry, savoury finish with lingering rye spice—cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper—softened by a whisper of oak. Subtle toasted oak drapes pecan and walnut over the palate, concluding with a clean, warm, slightly resinous echo.
