Old Forester 1870 Original Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
In stock
In 1870 George Garvin Brown created Old Forester on Louisville's famous Whiskey Row. In honour of that milestone year in Bourbon history, they have crafted a tribute – Old Forester 1870 Original Batch – the first expression in the Old Forester Whiskey Row series.
1870 Original Batch echoes George Garvin Brown’s original batching process. Back then, Brown batched barrels obtained from three distilleries to create a consistent flavor profile. To emulate that process today, they also select barrels from three warehouses, each barrel originating from a different day of production, with a different entry proof and a different age profile. The three expressions of Old Forester are then batched together and minimally filtered to craft Old Forester 1870 Original Batch.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with coppery hues and a warm honey-gold glow.
Nose
A multi-layered aroma of vanilla bean, toffee and caramel, woven with toasted oak and gentle spice. Cinnamon and nutmeg mingle with dried fruit notes, while hints of cocoa and coffee add depth. A delicate leather nuance lingers, yielding to a warm, bourbon-forward sweetness that is classic, refined and inviting.
Palate
On the palate, this 1870 Original Batch reveals a rich, cohesive blend of vanilla and caramel, braided with toasted oak. Spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, clove—emerge with dark fruit and a touch of tobacco, tempered by a subtle peppery bite. Silky to medium-full, finishing with warm toffee, oak, and a lingering spice flourish.
Finish
Long, warm finish with caramel and vanilla sweetness, lifted by baking spices and toasted oak. Silky and persistent, it drifts toward dried fruit notes before fading to a restrained, comforting warmth that invites the next sip.
