San Fransisco World Spirits Competition - Craft Distiller Whiskey - Silver Medal 2019
Yes that is right, peated Bourbon! Mash bill of 70% New York sourced corn, 15% barley & 15% peated barley.
Established in 2010 and the first new whisky distillery in New York State since the days of prohibition making it the oldest of the 50 and growing new craft distilleries to open in New York.
Now located in the Brooklyn naval yard having outgrown the original premises in Williamsburg.
The peated Malt is from Scotland and indeed almost a hybrid of Scotch and Bourbon in a hip flask shaped bottle.
“The dram is salt-forward from start to finish, interspersed with rich bursts of flavor. Hot rubber, pretzels, slightly bitter baker’s chocolate, warm leather, and hard candies define the palate. The body is meaty and rich; tannic, but not unpleasantly so. As on the nose, peat is not a primary element, but it is clear that this is an exceptionally complex spirit.”—Whiskey Wash (93)

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a warm, caramel-bronze glow.
Nose
Salt-forward and briny on the nose, with a delicate peat whisper. Maritime minerals mingle with warm leather, toasted corn, and a hint of cocoa and pretzel salt, yielding a complex, Scotch-like aroma that is elegant and balanced.
Palate
Salt-forward from the first sip, this peated bourbon reveals a meaty, rich palate with surprising balance. Pretzel salt and toasted corn sweetness mingle with notes of hot rubber, warm leather, and bitter baker’s chocolate, while peat lingers in the background with a touch of smoke. Tannic but refined, the finish is long, savory, and candy-bright.
Finish
Salt-forward to the very end, with a coastal brininess carrying a subtle peat whisper. The finish lingers as warm leather meets bitter chocolate and a touch of candy sweetness, tapering to a dry, refined fade.
