Foursquare Rum Distillery was established in 1996 in St Philip, Barbados, by the Seale family, whose wider business, R.L. Seale & Co., dates back to 1926. The distillery was built on the site of a former sugar factory, which gives it a stronger historical connection than its modern founding date might suggest, and it remains a fourth-generation Barbadian family business under Richard Seale.
