Martell’s style is closely tied to the Borderies cru, the smallest of Cognac’s main growing areas and long described by the house as its signature terroir, bringing floral and candied-fruit notes to the blend. Production is also distinctive: Martell says it is the only major cognac house to distil exclusively clear wines, a choice that helps define the elegance and purity of its eaux-de-vie. Landmark releases have helped shape that identity, especially Martell Cordon Bleu, created in 1912, which became one of the house’s enduring icons and was later served on the Queen Mary, the Orient Express and Concorde.
Today the house is part of Pernod Ricard, which has owned Martell since 2001.
