Billecart-Salmon was founded in 1818 with the marriage of Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon, and remains one of the few major Champagne houses still family-run after more than seven generations. Based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the house built its reputation on a refined, precise style rather than scale alone, with Louis Salmon, Elisabeth’s brother, playing an important early role in shaping the wines.
