This long discontinued bottling from J&B is a blend of 32 Whiskies which are at least 12 years of age.

Very good blended scotch that would hold its own against the likes of Chivas Regal and Johnnie Walker and very moreish to boot.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep burnished amber with copper highlights and mahogany undertones.

Nose

Menthol and grassy barley greet the nose, unfolding into honeydew melon and peaches crowned with vanilla ice cream, framed by caramel wafers with a subtle kiss of smoke and spice.

Palate

Spiced white stone fruits—apricot, peach and nectarine—meet cool mint and herbs, carried by fresh biscuity barley. Ripe melon and lemongrass brighten the mid-palate, while vanilla fudge and toffee apples weave with bourbon biscuits, finishing with a refined, lingering warmth.

Finish

Toffee apple and musky peach anchor the finish, followed by apricot crumble and warm vanilla oak. A delicate dusting of spice and cocoa powder lingers, leaving a softly dessert-like, fragrant echo on the palate.

The Brooks name was added later after Alfred Brooks bought the business, creating the name that would become closely linked with blended Scotch whisky. J&B Rare was created in the early 1930s and became the company’s best-known whisky.
