Tasting Notes

Colour

Bright golden amber with sunlit honey tones and subtle bronze highlights.

Nose

Opulent on the nose, dried plum and fig ride atop richly seasoned sherry oak. Dark cocoa, toffee, and almond paste converge with orange zest and spice—cinnamon and clove—leaving a soft, elegant leather whisper in the background.

Palate

Silky and poised on the palate, with ripe pear and apple framed by honeyed sweetness and vanilla. Subtle sherry notes emerge with almond nuttiness and gentle spice, while a whisper of oak lends structure. Creamy mouthfeel, a light mineral lift, and a refined, citrus-tinged finish linger gracefully.

Finish

Long, luxurious finish of sherried sweetness: dark fruit, raisin and fig, cocoa and toasted spice, with gentle oak. The fade is warm, velvety, and slightly citrusy, lingering into orange zest and nutmeg.

Imperial (silent)
(im-PEER-ee-ul) Imperial was founded in 1897 by Thomas Mackenzie in Carron, and the name was chosen to mark Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in the same year. Its history was unusually stop-start from the beginning: the distillery closed after just a year, reopened in 1919, fell silent again in 1925, returned in 1955, was mothballed in 1985, reopened under Allied Distillers in 1991, and then stopped for the last time in 1998. Chivas Brothers acquired the site in 2005, and Imperial was later demolished to make way for Dalmunach, which opened on the same site in 2015.
