About Basil Hayden's
Basil Hayden was created in 1992 by Booker Noe as part of Jim Beam’s Small Batch Bourbon Collection. It is named after Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., a Maryland-born farmer-distiller who moved to Kentucky and became associated with a higher-rye bourbon style. The brand keeps that link through a lighter, high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon designed to sit apart from the fuller, higher-proof styles of Booker’s, Baker’s and Knob Creek.
Now part of Suntory Global Spirits, Basil Hayden remains one of the more approachable bourbons in the Beam portfolio, bottled at 80 proof with notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, oak and black pepper. The wider range has included 10 Year Old Bourbon, Toast, Dark Rye, Malted Rye and cask-finished limited releases, keeping the focus on softer spice, sweetness and a lighter drinking style.
