Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva 14 Year Old – A New 100% Aguardiente Cuban Rum

Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva 14 Year Old

Eminente has unveiled Gran Reserva Exclusiva, a new 14-year-old Cuban rum that represents one of the most significant releases in the brand's history. Created by Cuban Maestro Ronero César Martí, the expression is made entirely from aged aguardiente, the aromatic, molasses-based spirit traditionally used to provide depth and character to Cuban rum.

Unlike conventional Cuban rum blends, which typically combine aguardiente with lighter, highly rectified rum, Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva uses five carefully selected aguardientes, each matured for at least 14 years in ex-whisky casks.

Bottled at a reported 44.5% ABV, the release joins Eminente's permanent collection and introduces a richer, more concentrated interpretation of traditional Cuban rum. Its distinctive crocodile-inspired bottle has also been redesigned, with a more pronounced textured surface and matching presentation box.

What Is Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva?

Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva is a 14-year-old Cuban rum created to showcase the importance of aguardiente in the country's rum-making heritage.

Aguardiente is an aromatic spirit distilled from fermented sugar cane molasses. Traditionally, it is matured in oak casks before being blended with lighter rum to achieve the balance and character associated with Cuban rum.

Most Cuban rums incorporate varying proportions of aguardiente and higher-strength, lighter distillates. Eminente has taken a different approach with Gran Reserva Exclusiva, removing the lighter component entirely.

The resulting expression consists exclusively of five mature aguardientes selected for their individual aromatic characteristics.

Each has been aged for a minimum of 14 years, providing the foundation for a rum intended to highlight mature oak, tropical fruit, vanilla and the deeper flavours developed during extended maturation.

What Makes 100% Aguardiente So Significant?

The decision to create a rum exclusively from aguardiente is particularly notable within the Cuban rum category.

Traditional Cuban rum production involves combining different distillates to achieve a specific style. Lighter rum contributes elegance and balance, while aguardiente introduces greater aromatic intensity and complexity.

For Eminente, aguardiente has always played a central role.

Its established Reserva 7 Year Old expression contains a particularly high proportion of aged aguardiente, helping distinguish it from lighter Cuban styles.

Gran Reserva Exclusiva takes this philosophy further.

By using 100% aguardiente, César Martí has created a rum that places the more characterful component of traditional Cuban production at the centre of the finished blend.

The approach also connects the release to older Cuban rum-making traditions, when aromatic molasses distillates were fundamental to the development of the island's spirits industry.

Although Eminente has previously explored an all-aguardiente composition through a small collector's release, Gran Reserva Exclusiva is the first such expression to join its permanent collection.

Five Aguardientes Aged for at Least 14 Years

The new release combines five separate aguardientes, with the youngest component matured for a minimum of 14 years.

The spirits have been aged in casks previously used for whisky, allowing the rum to develop additional layers of flavour through prolonged interaction with oak.

Ex-whisky casks can contribute notes of vanilla, caramel, toasted wood and spice, complementing the natural richness of the matured molasses spirit.

The extended ageing also allows the individual components to develop distinctive characteristics before blending.

César Martí's role is to bring these aguardientes together into a balanced expression, retaining their intensity while creating a cohesive finished rum.

The result is designed to offer a more concentrated interpretation of Eminente's established Cuban style.

Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva Tasting Notes

The announced tasting profile emphasises tropical fruit, vanilla, cocoa and rich caramelised sweetness, supported by mature oak.

Nose: Intense tropical fruit aromas accompanied by Tahitian vanilla, cocoa and quince. Crème brûlée sweetness develops alongside delicate floral hints of iris.

Palate: Rich woody notes combine with candied fruits and a developing sweetness of salted caramel. Mature oak brings additional depth to the fruit-driven profile.

Finish: Long, indulgent and aromatic, with lingering fruit, caramel and oak.

These characteristics suggest a rum particularly well suited to drinking neat, allowing the individual flavours of the aged aguardientes to develop gradually in the glass.

Who Is César Martí?

César Martí is the Cuban Maestro Ronero responsible for creating Eminente's distinctive rum style.

Originally from Villa Clara, a region with a long history of sugar cane cultivation, Martí grew up surrounded by the traditions of Cuban rum production.

He became one of the youngest people to attain the prestigious title of Maestro Ronero, a position requiring extensive knowledge of distillation, maturation and blending.

His approach to Eminente focuses on aguardiente, using its naturally rich aromatic profile to create Cuban rums with greater depth and complexity.

Gran Reserva Exclusiva represents one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy, using exclusively mature aguardientes rather than relying on the lighter components typically found in Cuban rum blends.

Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva Release Date and Availability

Eminente Gran Reserva Exclusiva was announced in October 2026 and is being introduced as part of the brand's permanent collection.

Unlike individually numbered collector's editions, the new expression is intended to establish a longer-term position within Eminente's premium rum portfolio.

The 70cl release is already appearing through selected European spirits retailers.

A confirmed UK recommended retail price and specific UK release date have not yet been established.

For collectors and enthusiasts of mature Cuban rum, the combination of 14-year maturation, 100% aguardiente composition and distinctive premium presentation makes this a noteworthy addition to the Eminente range.
